signaling-pathways

G3BP1 is the central scaffolding protein required for the assembly of stress granules: under cellular stress, G3BP1 (together with its paralog G3BP2) nucleates the condensation of RNAs and RNA-binding proteins into these cytoplasmic granules. Beyond its structural role in stress granule formation, G3BP1 can also directly bind other proteins recruited into the granule, and post-translational modifications of G3BP1 (such as oxidation of specific residues) can regulate which binding partners it recruits.
